🌙 Meaning of the Khanda

Sikhism is a monotheistic religion that values loyalty, purity, discipline, and self‑control. The Khanda is a profound emblem composed of several elements:

⚔️ The Double‑Edged Sword (Khanda)

Symbolizes Divine Knowledge, capable of separating truth from falsehood. • Right edge: freedom and moral authority • Left edge: divine justice and protection It also represents breaking vanity, false pride, and social inequality.

🔵 The Chakar (Circular Ring)

An infinite circle with no beginning or end. It symbolizes God’s perfection, eternity, unity, and compassion.

🗡️ The Two Curved Swords (Kirpans)

They represent the balance between spiritual and temporal strength — a harmony similar to yin and yang.

💠 Cultural note: Baptized Sikh men traditionally carry the surname Singh (“lion”), while women carry Kaur (“princess”).
